So, what is industrial design?
Industrial design is the result of creative human activity in the field of artistic design, characterized by any new form, configuration, colour, or combination of these elements in a product that creates an aesthetic impression.
In other words, it is the design of your product or its component. That’s why an industrial design can be anything from the texture of a fabric and the pattern on clothing or tabletop games to the packaging for everyday items, all the way to the appearance of interior objects such as sofas or chandeliers, or the external appearance of agricultural machinery.
In essence, an industrial design is any object whose external appearance has not been previously presented on the market for such goods.
If your product is not an architectural, industrial, hydro-technical, or stationary structure or an object with an unstable form made of liquid or gaseous substances, then it is possible and worthwhile to obtain a certificate for an industrial design.
What is the registration procedure?
- To begin, you need photos of the industrial design (sketches, drawings) and a brief description of the product (this can be an oral or written short description since a detailed description for registration will be prepared after clarifying all the details). This information will help determine the likelihood of obtaining a certificate, as well as the cost of the procedure.
- Next, following the standard procedure for obtaining an industrial design certificate, it takes place after 7-9 months of examination. However, often it can be faster, provided that the application is correctly submitted.
The validity period of the industrial design certificate is 25 years and can be renewed annually for the period you choose as necessary for the existence of your design on the market.
